Last night I attended my granddaughter’s
daycare Christmas program.
It always amazes me how the teachers and
staff are able to take all the different age groups and give them
the perfect song to sing, add a few motions, and it becomes a
memorable event. The one-year olds sang “Jingle Bells” as they shook
bells and wiggled their little bodies. The two-year olds were just
as entertaining as they sang, “Silent Night” while holding up stars
that they had made from construction paper glued to sticks.
The three-year olds sang, “Hark the Herald” while dancing with angel
wings and halos (some a little crooked). The four-year olds sang,
“Joy to the World” as they danced and twirled to upbeat music
shaking their booties. The five-year olds, my granddaughter’s group,
sang “Away in a Manger” as they danced and told the Christmas story
as only a five-year old can.
The night was filled with magic and the
little performers became the biggest stars. Hollywood couldn’t have
duplicated this performance nor would they have tried. It was a
perfect night with a perfect spirit of what Christmas should be. It
was a bunch of little children, learning and telling the story of
Jesus, and acting it out for their parents.
Once again this Christmas season, I’m
reminded how much we can learn from a child. It only took one Child
to save the world and it only takes one child to simplify Christ’s
birth retold each year thereafter.
If you get a chance, go see a Christmas
program in your town. Visit the local school’s performance or one at
your church. You will walk away with a renewed heart and awakened
spirit of Christmas.
Blessings,
Brenda Bates
